Subject Overview

A qualification in Information Technology or Business opens up an incredible world of opportunities for work, not only within the technology industry but also in supporting roles within other industries. Students develop a wide range of skills required in ICT or Business and apply these within work-related contexts.

Teaching and Learning 

 

KS3 ICT

Students learn the fundamental skills of how to stay safe in the digital world by completing an in-house Online Safety Award covering Cyberbullying, Searching Safely, Social Media, Copyright, as well as viruses, malware and phishing.

KS4 ICT

BTEC First Award in Creative Digital Media Production (Year 9 and 10)

Students develop a range of relevant practical, technical and creative skills. The units of study are; Creative Media Sectors and Audiences, Planning and Pitching a Product, Website Production, Digital Games Production and Publishing.

Edexcel GCSE ICT (Year 11)

Students focus on how ICT is used in the modern day, that ICT is not just about computers but it incorporates mobile phones, tablets, and other modern technologies. The course requires students to investigate the issues surrounding modern technology; our dependence, and the digital divide.

KS5 ICT

Students develop a wide range of skills required in ICT and apply these within work-related contexts. Students will gain an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, the flow of information on a global scale, and the importance of legal and security considerations.

KS4 Business

Btec Level 1/2 First Award in Business

Students study how real world businesses work, develop and make a profit, whilst developing some technical business and employability skills. The units of study are Enterprise in the Real World, Finance for Business, Introducing Retail and Promoting a Brand.

KS5 Business

Students are given the opportunity to learn and be assessed on a range of business topics in real-life situations including Business Accounting, Recruitment and Accounting.

Revision Sites: www.memrise.com and www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize, which includes explanations of key topics and mini tests. We also have GCSE Pod which is a useful source of information for Edexcel GCSE ICT.

Parents can support by ensuring their son/daughter is making progress on Memrise as well as utilising the resources on GCSE Pod.
