Year 6 Transition
Starting secondary school is an important milestone. For many students, this is an exciting time filled with new opportunities, friendships, and experiences; however, we recognise that for some children it can also feel challenging or uncertain. At The Hart School, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels supported, confident, and ready for this next stage of their education, and we work closely with families and primary schools to make the transition as smooth as possible.
To support this, we hold two dedicated Transition Days on Monday 29th June 2026 and Tuesday 30th June 2026. During these days, students will experience taster lessons, meet their new teachers and tutors, and begin to familiarise themselves with the school environment and routines. This helps them to build confidence, develop friendships, and feel reassured ahead of starting in September.
Alongside the transition days, we will also be hosting a Parent Information Evening on either Monday 29th June or Tuesday 30th June 2026. The evening you are invited to attend will be allocated based on your child’s primary school, and a letter will be sent home with full details, including timings and location. This is an opportunity for parents and carers to receive key information, meet staff, and ask any questions about the transition process.
We have a strong pastoral system in place to support students as they move into Year 7. Form Tutors, Heads of Year, and our Student Support Team work together to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, and ready to learn. We also recognise that some students may benefit from additional support, and where appropriate, additional transition activities will be planned for identified students to help them feel even more prepared and confident.
For students with additional needs, our SEND team works closely with primary schools and families to ensure a smooth and supported transition. This may include enhanced communication, additional visits, or tailored support plans. Further information about SEND provision at The Hart School can be found here:

We have also produced a Transition Booklet which contains a wide range of useful information about joining The Hart School, including school routines, expectations, and support available. You can access the booklet here: Transition Booklet
